About

Caroline Altenbernd

Hello! I am Caroline Altenbernd, a seasoned strategist and educator based in New York City. I am a communications lecturer at Baruch College at the undergraduate level and a faculty member at Columbia University at the graduate level. As a space, culture, tech, and tourism enthusiast, I provide advisory and participate in special projects for selected organizations in those areas—with a list of 30+ partners and previous clients globally including the Four Seasons, The Ritz-Carlton, Mandarin Oriental, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Eataly, Kimpton Hotels, Royal Albert Hall, Imperial War Rooms, and more. I am currently on the Fulbright Specialist roster, an opportunity within the United States Department of State’s Fulbright program that brings experts to host institutions around the world.

Between 2018 and 2023, I oversaw strategy for educational content on political advertising and elections integrity at Meta. I assured advertisers (such as political parties, candidates and businesses from 200+ countries and territories) were equipped with proper support to run political and social issue ads on Facebook and Instagram. In addition to policy work, I led an accessibility project for Facebook’s Business Help Center to make content accessible. In early 2022, I was nominated for the American Association of Political Consultants’ 40 under 40 Award for this work.

Prior to Meta (Facebook), I worked with NASA Ames Research Center, NASA Johnson Space Center, and Publicis Groupe on public relations and communications projects. Some of these projects included expanding awareness of NASA’s partnerships with private sector organizations (such as SpaceX, Stratolaunch, United Launch Alliance, Boeing, and others) and NASA’s educational programs.

My mission is to equip people with useful knowledge. Fostering relationships through storytelling, emotional intelligence, and data-driven strategies is the core of my work. My mixed exposure in corporate communications, public policy, partnerships, media production, and knowledge management (in multiple industries, sectors, and regions) brings a varied perspective to all I do. I have experience with highly regulated organizations, scenarios under uncertainty, and elevated risk. No audience is too small or too large. No issue is unsolvable.

I am open to select teaching, advisory, and consulting opportunities within higher ed, technology, art, hospitality, and aerospace. I am also open to advocacy-related partnerships in financial literacy, the arts, education, and space.

When possible, I enjoy volunteering with Junior Achievement (since 2012), playing chess, visiting museums, traveling, and learning something new. I am a proud alumna of Columbia University, Baruch College, and the Fashion Institute of Technology.
